Mampai Thanadi was not only a mother to her own children, she was also a mentor to many others in the Free State.
She shared her love with all the children whose lives she touched as a teacher.
So her untimely death on May 1 has left many people devastated.
Thanadi was born on October 7 1970 in Moroko North, Soweto.
She started her schooling at Lekang Primary before attending Isaacson Higher Primary. She matriculated at St Antony School, in Boksburg.
In 1994, she graduated with a teacher's diploma from Tshiya College of Education, in Qwaqwa.
Her pursuit of learning never stopped. In 2001 she was awarded a diploma in education management by the University of Pretoria. Two years later, it was a Bachelor of Education (Honours) from the University of the Free State, which also awarded her a policy and governance diploma the following year.
When other people sought greener pastures in Gauteng, she stayed put because she wanted to make a contribution to her province.
Thanadi was actively involved in the upliftment of the community through the ANC, Sadtu and Christian Ministries. The youth in the area benefited from her leadership because she always encouraged them and was available to them if they needed a sounding board.
She was to leave for the US on June 15 to participate in an English teaching programme at the University of Pennsylvania.
At the time of her death she was a head of department at Qhowaneng Primary School.
Thanadi will be buried tomorrow at Avalon Cemetery.
The service will be held at the Inkanyezi Hall, Moroka North, from 11am.
