A total of 4500 gold miners at Simmer & Jack's Buffelsfontein operation downed tools on Wednesday night. "The workers are negotiating for a minimum salary of R2700 a month for underground workers while the mine refuses to budge on the current minimum wage of R2000 a month," the National Union of Mineworkers said.
