Nigerian superstar Femi Kuti is coming to South Africa to perform in the Africa Day Celebrations concert on May 25.

The show takes place at the Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, Johannesburg, and Kuti will share the stage with local stars such as Vuvuzela Orchestra, Louis Mhlanga, Ringo, Lesego, as well as Lindiwe from Zambia and Ugandan Kinobe.

On May 26, the Africa Day celebrations move to Jukskei Park in Alexandra where short films will be screened within the Alexandra residents' homes and local artists will exhibit their wares.

The afternoon will feature local designers participating in a riverside display of their designs along the Jukskei River, followed by a fashion show within the park.

There will be performances by musicians such as Twigga, Molly and Thuli, L'vovo Derango, Afro-pop starlet Siphokazi and Flabba.

The Africa Day festivities wrap up on May 27 with a free concert at Mofolo Park in Soweto. Musicians expected to perform include Vuvuzela Orchestra, Lira, HHP, Kinobe and Femi Kuti.

The Mary Fitzgerald Square concert will be broadcast on SABC Africa and SABC2 from 10pm until midnight.

The executive mayor of Johannesburg, Amos Masondo, said: "Africa Day celebrations are especially relevant in light of the role that migrants from African nations play in Jo'burg. Migrants can make a positive contribution to the economic and social life of the city they reside in.

"They help to strengthen the cosmopolitan character of the city and contribute to its cultural diversity."
