Congratulations to Helen Zille on her landslide victory as DA leader. It was not an "affirmative action" appointment. She was elected because of the constructive leadership she has demonstrated as Cape Town mayor.

It is time the truth be told. We must move away from the bias that what is white is not good. Zille is a tough woman who will fight to the bitter end.

Look at how she handled the 2010 issue. All she wanted was to know the actual cost before the stadium was built. She challenged high costs. This is normal for all meticulous human beings - something which is rare among many politicians.

I thought Zille was one of those whites who did not want 2010 to come to Mzansi. How wrong I was.

If she maintains this constructive and objective approach, we are in for an interesting battle between the DA and the ruling party.

Should the ANC not get the majority vote in an election - which is possible because of the lack of delivery, corruption and the split about its leadership, Zille could easily form a coalition government.

She proved this against all the forces that tried to annihilate her. But we will have to see if she remains this or becomes another Tony Leon.
