The University of South Africa yesterday awarded Pravin Gordhan, commissioner of the South African Revenue Service (Sars), an honorary Doctor of Commerce degree.

The University of South Africa yesterday awarded Pravin Gordhan, commissioner of the South African Revenue Service (Sars), an honorary Doctor of Commerce degree.

Gordhan, a former member of parliament who holds a postgraduate qualification in human development, received the degree for his contribution to the economy.

"Under his guidance and leadership as commissioner, Sars has demonstrated significant improvements in performance which included a marked increase and growth in revenue collection and increase in tax and customs compliance," the university said yesterday. - Sapa
