Marion Brower of Northam Platinum said negotiations started yesterday.
She said since last week, the mine, near Thabazimbi in Limpopo, had been losing about 1100 ounces of platinum group metals output, or about R12million in revenue.
The workers, mainly members of the National Union of Mineworkers (Num), are demanding the removal of the mine's two top industrial relations officials as well as the relocation of Northam chief executive Glyn Lewis to the company's head office in Johannesburg.
They accuse the officials of firing black workers for offences that their white counterparts were not fired for.
Num spokesman Lesiba Leshoka said the strike was not called by the union, but was a spontaneous action taken by the workers.
However, he said the union supported the strike. - Sapa
