Call for companies to assist children

The reaction of children to the football coaching clinic held by the University of Pretoria players in Atteridgeville last week showed that more companies needed to get involved in sponsoring such initiatives.

This was the view of Lawrence Mabona, Amatuks' assistant coach, after the completion of the clinic, which is part of his club's national outreach programme.

Mabona said the children's eagerness at such events always humbled him.

"They always ask how they can join our programme, the Tuks Sport Football Academy. The players also put so much into it and take their duties seriously.

"Our last event, held in Lehurutse, was also successful. If other companies were to initiate such projects on a consistent basis, our soccer will progress," Mabona said.

Mabona, accompanied by team manager Graham Oosthuizen and several players, said the response in Atteridgeville warranted a follow up.

"Our aim is to get several youngsters into the academy and take this thing to the next level," he said.
