Again the pain

Once again, the lingering pain of a family whose loved one disappeared without trace three years ago, preoccupies our nation.

Once again, the lingering pain of a family whose loved one disappeared without trace three years ago, preoccupies our nation.

As in most unsolved crimes, the elements of intrigue, suspense and mystery characterise the saga of Constable Francis Rasuge and her boyfriend William Nkuna, now serving a life term for kidnapping and murdering her.

Amid much fanfare, police searched for Rasuge's remains in the garden of Nkuna's home without success. It is important that police act on credible information lest they worsen the pain for the family.

Public cooperation is an invaluable resource for police investigations. In fact, police owe most of their successes to the assistance they receive from the public. Though the pain felt by the Rasuge family is shared by all of us, police must guard against the search for her remains being turned into a public spectacle as happened last week.
