With the petrol price rising 34 cents on Wednesday, many motorists will inevitably be forced to weigh their options with regard to their daily travelling costs.

One option is commuting by train to work, as a report in Sowetan suggested yesterday. But, as the report asked, are the trains safe? Truth is safety on trains is still a big concern among commuters.

Other options such as the government's integrated public transport model have yet to get off the ground. So talk about a world-class public transport system ahead of the 2010 World Cup Soccer Finals is still just that - talk.
