Superintendent Jay Naicker said the girl and two friends were sent by her mother to a local shop in Mbizimbelwe Reserve, near Gingindlovu on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast.
A man stopped them and asked the 10-year-old to run an errand for him. He told the other two girls to go home with the groceries.
The girl told police that the man then dragged her into a sugarcane field where he raped her.
He threatened to kill her if she told anyone. But the girl told her mother as soon as she got home. - Sapa
