Netcare 911 spokesman Nick Dollman said yesterday that a helicopter was dispatched to the scene at 11.51am on Tuesday.
"The policeman was thrown out of the bakkie when it rolled several times," said Dollman.
He was airlifted to Union Hospital in Alberton.
