The South African Scriptwriters' Union is calling on Gauteng film and television writers to attend a two-day seminar to be held in Newtown.

The seminar takes place on May 5 and 6 at No 2 President and Miriam Makeba streets and starts at 9am.

The conference is part of the writers' legal and management project initiated by the script-writers' union.

Basil Dube, of the union, said the theme of the seminar will be: The State of Writer Employment Agreements and the South African Regulatory Framework.

"The seminar will also deal with copyright as an integral part of the programme.

"The project has become an important development in improving the working conditions of our film and television writers.

"In the next two months we will be holding similar workshops and seminars in Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and Polokwane," he said.

With the exploitation of black film and television scriptwriters, the union has committed itself to empowering its members on legal and labour-related issues.

The seminar will also launch a national campaign to fight for the rights of its members, said Dube.
