Nombuso Mahlangu, co-presenter of the music show Rootz on SABC1, has been fired.

The show is screened on Sundays at 6.30pm.

Mahlangu, who presented the show with Clevy Sekgala, has been replaced by the outspoken and talented Khathide Ngobe.

Ali Mpofu, the producer of the show, said Mahlangu's contract had not been renewed because she was not living up to expectations.

But Mahlangu denied she had been fired.

"I am still part of Rootz as a researcher," she said.

Ngobe, also a presenter of a traditional-music show on Ukhozi FM on Saturdays, started as a guest presenter on Rootz just before the second series of the show ended.

When the new series began, he was hired as the new presenter.

Ngobe said: "I'm happy to join Rootz. I never thought about appearing on TV, but I'm starting to enjoy it. I'm excited because my fans will have a chance to see me doing the show."

Mpofu said: "Yes, Khathide has joined Rootz as a presenter.

"Sekgala, who has been part of the show since its inception, has been elevated to a new and bigger position."

The producers are looking for a new girl to present the show with Ngobe.
