Pedestrian dies as he flies through car window on to seat

A 45-year-old male pedestrian died when he was knocked down by a car on the R554 road in Germiston at the weekend.

According to Ekurhuleni Metro Police the driver, 30, alleged that he heard a bang and shattering of glass while driving towards Leondale.

He lost control of his car and swerved into oncoming traffic.

When he finally managed to stop he realised there was a male corpse on the vehicle's front passenger seat.

"The pedestrian went through the windscreen and landed in the car," said Metro Police spokesman Mokheseng Kobeli.

The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, did not sustain any injuries but was treated at the scene for shock.

Kobeli said the cause of the accident would be investigated and a case of culpable homicide had been registered at the Elsburg police station. - Mfundekelwa Mkhulisi
