More than 4000 athletes are expected to take part in the second edition of the Nedbank Johannesburg City Marathon at Emmerentia Dam in Johannesburg on May 6.

Last year 4 000 runners from all over the country attended the inaugural marathon..

Sephiwe Tsholetsane, Athletics South Africa's events manager, said they are expecting the same number of athletes to support the event.

The prizes will remain the same with the winners in both men's and women's categories getting a whopping R60 000 each.

The route takes runners through some of the country's richest heritage sites, and is also the last event athletes can use to qualify for the 2007 Comrades Marathon.

Entries are available from the following sports shops: Bedford Runner, Fourways Runner, Randburg Runner, The Sweatshop Dunkeld and Fourways, The Edge Bedford Centre and Westgate. In Pretoria, the following stores will also be distributing entries: Varsity Sports, Run-a-Way Sport and Running Inn.
