Memories of loyalty, fun

There are so many adjectives one could use to describe Joseph Tsie Monkoe, 67, the freelance photographer and ex-softballer from Atteridgeville, who died this week.

There are so many adjectives one could use to describe Joseph Tsie Monkoe, 67, the freelance photographer and ex-softballer from Atteridgeville, who died this week.

"Bra Joe," as many remember him, died on April 18 following a short battle with cancer. He was diagnosed in October, but only became seriously ill in January after a trip to Cape Town with male members of the St Bernard The Martyr Church.

He was an active, humorous pensioner whose photography adorns many Atteridgeville homes.

Born in 1939 in Marabastad, Monkoe worked for the department of transport for 37 years until his retirement in 1996.

He is survived by his widow, Julina, daughter Antoinette, and sons, Stanley and Thabo.

Monkoe will be buried at the Old Atteridgeville cemetery tomorrow after a service at the local St Bernard The Martyr church. - McKeed Kotlolo
