Gender balance will create a normal society where both genders have a say in the running of the government. It will also change the stereotypical belief that women are only good at providing kitchen services.
But I believe this change should not be artificial. It should be natural in terms of a person's skills, ability and experience and not because someone happens to be a woman in the 21stcentury.
It is disturbing that women are given government posts at the expense of experienced and capable men, not because they have experience and ability, but because they are women.
The ANC Women's League wants 50percent representation of women in parliament. That is a good statement, but the league must understand that such a vision would be achieved after some time, not immediately.
We don't have to give women positions simply because they are women.
I am not a chauvinist trying to underestimate and subordinate women.
My point is that women be given positions when they are capable of performing certain measures in certain disciplines.
