A home-based care centre at which orphaned children and people with HIV-Aids are cared for was opened yesterday in the rural community of Ga-Maja, near Polokwane.

The Sentahle care centre was established in 2001 but had no adequate accommodation for the children and HIV patients.

Founder Bathepa Maja said she had been using her parents' house for accommodation since 2001.

Meropa Casino, in Polokwane, built a R600000 centre for Sentahle and donated R50000.

Maja was a Shoprite-Checkers Community Builder of the Year finalist last year.

The centre has 21 home-based care-givers.

Limpopo health MEC Seaparo Sekoati, pictured, praised Sentahle's role in the community.
