Paying twice over

Nedbank has failed to explain why Mphiyakhe Nkomo has to repay two mortgage loans when he took one out with NBS before it was liquidated.

Nedbank has failed to explain why Mphiyakhe Nkomo has to repay two mortgage loans when he took one out with NBS before it was liquidated.

Nkomo bought a house in 1987 that was financed by NBS.

He repaid his bond every month without fail until it was transferred to Nedbank, said Nkomo.

Nedbank gave him a new account, which he used to repay the loan.

He said Nedbank demanded R1500, which was more than his previous repayment.

Nkomo obliged and paid the amount, but a month later his Pretoria branch demanded that he should also pay R1200 into his old NBS account number.

He protested and was threatened with auction if he did not repay his NBS account.

No one has properly explained why he has to repay two mortgage bonds, said Nkomo.

"It's frustrating to be forced to pay a debt you don't know about," said Nkomo.

"All attempts to resolve this problem have been fruitless," said Nkomo.

Nedbank has not responded to Consumer Line inquiries since we took up the matter more than a month ago.
