The Limpopo House of Traditional Leaders yesterday asked to be remunerated in a manner equal to their responsibilities within municipalities.

This is one of the resolutions arrived at during the provincial traditional leaders' two-day summit in Mokopane.

The summit was aimed at forging partnerships with government institutions, and the extent to which they should be engaged at municipal level.

The chairman of the p rovincial h ouse of traditional leaders, Hosi Samuel Mohlaba, told Sowetan that the summit highlighted the participation of traditional leaders in municipal programmes.

Mohlaba said: "The provincial government should provide us with medical aid and attend to our travelling needs."

The summit also resolved that the government should assist in setting up a task team of experts, which would assist traditional leaders with signing documents and contracts with legal implications such as shareholding agreements with potential investors.

A programme will be facilitated through which all traditional leaders could be trained on the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).

Mohlaba said their house was as old as humanity itself and that through the years "we have seen heroic leaders waging wars and fighting relentlessly against white domination and colonialism."

The provincial director-general, Nelly Manzini, said her office would work tirelessly to attend to the needs of traditional leaders.

"We are attending to their summit resolution, including their travelling requirements," said Manzini.
