Athletics South Africa (ASA)'s top brass have chosen Polokwane as the venue to celebrate this year's World Athletics Day, on May 10.
Leonard Chuene, ASA president, said the celebrations will take place at Peter Mokaba Stadium. Hundreds of young athletes are expected to take part.
"World Athletics Day has been celebrated globally over 10 years and has become an important event of the athletics calendar.
"The focus is more on school children. We won't be able to produce top athletes to represent South Africa if development is neglected.
"We decided to link the day with the schools last year, the IAAF has encouraged all the member federations to work closely with schools on this project."
Youngsters born between 1990 and 1991 will take part in sprint events, long and high jump, discus, hurdles and walks.
Big names like Rammy and David Tsebe, Hendrick Ramaala, Daniel Radebe and Mbulaeni Mulaudzi will take part.
"It is appropriate to take this event to Limpopo because the province has a rich history in athletics," said Chuene.
