Former Bidvest Wits Univeristy and Santos coach Boebie "Mzala" Solomons is expected to be appointed Black Leopards' head coach next season, Sowetan established yesterday.

Though Leopards' publicist and brand manager Tshifhiwa "Chief" Thidiela refused to shed light on the future of their current coach, Hans-Dieter Schmidt, Sowetan gathered from sources close to the Thohoyandou side that their German mentor will not be retained next season.

Schmidt's absence on the bench when Leopards drew 1-1 against Bloemfontein Celtic at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday night, fuelled speculations that the stocky and bespectacled German was no longer the side's coach.

Said a diplomatic Thidiela yesterday: "I don't want to talk about who was on the bench and who was not. Let's talk about the point that we managed to get against Celtic because it is very crucial in our battle against relegation. I can assure our supporters that we will still be in the Castle Premiership next season."

Schmidt could not be reached for comment at the time of going to print yesterday.

The stalemate was important for Leopards in their battle against relegation considering that their fellow strugglers Maritzburg United and AmaZulu also failed to collect full points from their encounters on Saturday.

The draw was also welcomed by Celtic caretaker coach Benjamin Reed, who insisted after the match that Celtic will qualify for the SAA Supa 8 next season.

Myron Shongwe, the former City Pillars' marksman, headed home Leopards' goal in the first half, but the visitors drew level through Kleinbooi Taaibos in the second half after a pass from Moses Spandeel.
