Zimbabwean Tapiwa Chingadai made sure his name will be etched on people's minds when he won the yearly Forever Resort Loskop Dam Ultra-Marathon in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, on Saturday.

The unknown Chingadai, who runs in the colours of Harmony Athletics Club, covered the gruelling 50km course in 2 hours 45 minutes 51 seconds.

Following him closely was teammate and 2004 winner, Graham Malinga, on 2:48:07 with third place going to Hermanus Mokgadi 2:48:42. The leading bunch of Chingadai, Fannie Matshipa and Malinga took up the challenge from the 15km mark.

Malinga, who was fancied to win the race, broke from the rest at the 29km mark and opened a big gap. But Chingadai caught up with him (Malinga) at the uphill (47km mark) and never looked back until the finishing point.

In the women's section, Riana van Niekerk of Mr Price Athletics Club, defended her title in 3:23:52. Hot on her heels was Tshifhiwa Mundalamo of Harmony in 3:28:07 while Gwata Muchaleta came in third on 3:28:30.

Simon Moleshioa of Eskom Gijima won the inaugural Wild Challenge in 1:11:09 and Nokothula Mbethe won the women's section in 1:24:07.
