Loving mother was dedicated to school and church

Dulcie Nokwanda Mphahlele, 76, wife of the late educationist Dickson Mphahlele, died this week at her home in Lebowakgomo in Limpopo.

A respected community leader, Ma Mphahlele, who started her teaching career at the Kilnerton Model School in 1955, taught at Makurung Primary School in GaMphahlele for many years.

An ardent sports lover, Mphahlele was a basketball and tennis trainer.

She also worked with the choir at all the schools at which she taught.

States Mphahlele described his mother as a loving character who was always willing to help and to give constructive advice.

"She played her role as a mother and parent, even after the death of our father. She loved her family and wanted to ensure that they, too, progressed in life," States said.

Mphahlele was chairman of the Lebowa English Teachers' Association, a position she held for several years.

She was a member of the Anglican Church and promoted the arts and culture in the church, as well as at the schools at which she taught.

Mphahlele is survived by five sons and a daughter, a sister, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The funeral service will be held at 443 Zone A, Lebowakgomo, at 6am tomorrow.

The burial service will be at the Anglican Church in Zone A.
