After reaching the end of the road in the Absa Cup, SuperSport United resume their challenge for second spot on the log against BidVest Wits at Loftus on Sunday.

Matsatsantsa a Pitori were bundled out of the Cup of Dreams last Saturday by Silver Stars who won the quarterfinal match 7-6 on penalties.

This resulted in United failing to reach their seventh consecutive final. Now finishing the Castle Premiership season second on the log remains their only priority.

Finishing second will guarantee them a place in the African Champions League next year where they will join Premiership champions-elect Mamelodi Sundowns. David Skhosana, United's communications manager, said their campaign to finish second will be intensified this weekend.

"The defeat by Silver Stars is behind us and we have regrouped, everybody is working hard at training to ensure we do well on Sunday.

"It will be a tough match but Wits have not been doing well in the past few games. Our plan is to win all our remaining matches to finish second on the log."

On the other hand, Wits manager, George Mogotsi, said they would channel all their energies into the game to get a positive result.

"We also need maximum points to finish the season on a respectable position."

Wits beat United 1-0 in the first round. While United have been blowing hot and cold, Wits are still to win a game since former Bafana Bafana midfielder Eric Tinkler was named head coach.

This was after the club and Boebie Solomons parted ways.

United will rely on the likes of Richard Rantjie and Teko Modise, while Wits will look up to Boitumelo Moleyane and Abram Raselemane to end their losing streak. Kickoff is at 3pm.
