The community of GaRamokgopa in Botlokwa, north of Polokwane, is in mourning following the death of kgoshi Masedi Ramokgopa.

Ramokgopa, 52, died at the Kgapane Hospital, near Tzaneen, at the weekend after a long illness.

His family reportedly tried many times to find him a bride but failed .

Community members complained that they were not made aware of an intended marriage and said it would have been wrong for the kgoshi to marry without the community's knowledge.

Felix Ramokgopa, spokesman for the royal family and the royal council, said Ramokgopa died after years of ill health.

He said the kgoshi ascended to the throne in 2000 after the death of his father, George.

"We were expecting him to lead us until he became old. Unfortunately, he left us so early when we were still expecting so much from him," Felix Ramokgopa said.

He said that Molatelo Christopher Ramokgopa, a cousin of the late kgoshi, was expected to succeed him.

"We will sit as the royal family immediately after the burial to finalise the details of Masedi's succession," Ramokgopa said.

Kgoshi Ramokgopa will be buried on Saturday at the royal cemetery.

The funeral service will begin at 9am.

Limpopo premier Sello Moloto, the mayor of Capricorn, Motalane Monakedi, and a large number of provincial politicians and religious leaders are expected to attend.
