Omar Sandys and Lindani Ndwandwe will lead a bunch of black talented golfers in the Vodacom Origins of Golf Tour at Arabella Golf Club today.
Sandys, who is currently 15th on the money list, looks to have recovered from the wrist injury he sustained in Zambia two weeks ago.
He finished 15th in last weekend's Eskom Power Cup at Peacanwood Country Club at Hartebeespoort Dam.
Both Sandys and Ndwandwe are on top of their games with Ndwandwe coming second in the Zambian Open recently. Sandys said since he had fully recovered, he was feeling more confident than before.
"The Western Cape is too windy and I enjoy playing against the wind. I would like to improve my Order of Merit," said Sandys.
He added that the Eskom Cup was too tricky for him especially on the greens. Other black players to watch are Thabang Simon, William Baloyi, Joseph Mohulatsi, Mohammed Ayob, Bafana Hlophe and Irvin Mosate.
But they will be against a Brazilian-born professional golfer, Adilson da Silva, the most consistent player on the Vodacom Origins of Golf Tour. Last year he finished second in the same tour.
The field this week is a strong one, including Warren Abery, Doug McGuigan, Da Silva, Des Terblanche, Hennie Otto and defending champion Jean Hugo. Neil Schietekat, Alex Haindl and Jakobus Roos represent an exciting trio of youngsters who have enjoyed some good form of late.
The big-hitting Titch Moore has withdrawn because of a wrist injury while Rossouw Loubser, who won the event twice, has also withdrawn because of a back injury.
