The war of words continues over whether Tony Yengeni's parole conditions should be made public, with Correctional Services Minister Ngconde Balfour lashing out at the opposition's James Selfe after he accused Balfour of a lack of transparency.

Balfour said at the weekend that he was upset about Selfe's accusation that he was trying to hide something.

Selfe said yesterday that Balfour is bound by the Promotion of Access to Information Act which requires that the state release this information because it is in the public interest.

Last week Balfour toldSowetan that he would not release details of Yengeni's parole conditions.

After being released from prison this year, Yengeni was sentenced to community service.

He was to do clerical work and to act as a driver for the Siyazama School for mentally challenged children in Gugulethu, Cape Town.

The DA believes he has broken his parole conditions and is getting special treatment.
