Wits scare Pirates

Orlando Pirates will have to tread cautiously when they challenge the much-improved Bidvest Wits in a PSL Reserve League game at Milpark Stadium today in a 3pm kickoff.

The Clever Boys have improved tremendously since coach Lifa ''Mhlekazi'' Gqosha took over the reign from Premiership coach Eric Tinkler last month.

Wits have young players willing to learn and make a name for themselves in the inaugural league.

Striker Tshepo Mabitsela, Samuel Senokoane and Luyandi Niyake are some of the Under-19 squad players whose performance have impressed Gqosha.

"The trio are always prepared to listen and take instructions. If they can train hard and focus, their future looks bright. But we are not going to rush them.

"Last week they were outstanding in their league game against the star-studded Mamelodi Sundowns at home," said Gqosha.

Niyake scored a brace against the Pretoria outfit with other goals coming from Mabitsela and Sydney Nkalanga in their convincing 4-1 win last week.

Sundowns had fielded the strongest team including Tyron Arendse, David Kannemeyer, Antonio Trigo, Clement Mazibuko, Patrick Apitali, Lungisa Ndlela and Manqoba Ngwenya, just to mention a few.

Mickey Modisane, Pirates' PRO, said his side will go into this game well-motivated after drubbing SuperSport United 4-0 at Caledonian Stadium last week.

It remains to be seen whether coach Papi Khomane will give Jabu Mahalangu and Collin Chabalala runs after both scored a goal apiece against United.

Kaizer Chiefs host to Benoni Premier United at Eldorado Stadium.

SuperSport United face a daunting task when they meet Jomo Cosmos at Caledonian Stadium and in a game that can go either way, Moroka Swallows meet Sundowns at Germiston sports ground.

Results: Wits 4, Sundowns 1; Cosmos 2, Benoni Premier United 1; Kaizer Chiefs 3, Swallows 1; Pirates 4, SuperSport 0
