Deputy Minister of Education Enver Surty put a smile on the faces of the 80000 population of Freedom Park near Rustenburg in North West when he handed over a state-of-the-art school to the community last Friday.

Vukuzenzele Secondary School, which has 24 classrooms, a laboratory, a library, a computer room, office space for heads of departments as well as sports facilities, is a joint venture between North West's department of education and the Vodacom Foundation.

The joint project aims to contribute to the national objective of reducing the enormous backlog of classrooms in the country.

Surty receive a standing ovation when he announced that pupils at Vukuzenzele would not pay school fees.

"Joint strategic projects to build more schools with the department of education will play a key role in alleviating the shortage of classrooms," he said.
