KwaZulu-Natal motorists pushed off the road by the VIP "blue light" convoy transporting Jacob Zuma have welcomed the interdepartmental probe into the alleged actions of the security personnel.

On Friday the office of Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi said it had initiated the departmental probe after claims by several irate Pietermaritzburg motorists that a VIP "blue light" convoy, apparently belonging to Jacob Zuma, pushed them off the N3 outside Pietermaritzburg last Sunday afternoon.

One motorist got footage of the speeding convoy on camera and handed it to the Witness newspaper.

Another motorist Faizel Mooideen lodged an incident report with a local police station after he and his family allegedly had a rifle pointed at them by VIP security officers.

Selebi's office stated: "We cannot and will not condone unruly, criminal and malicious behaviour by our members.

"This type of behaviour goes against the grain of our policies."
