Police investigating the brazen armed robbery at Jet Mart store in the Daveyton Mall last week have arrested five more suspects. They have also recovered a CCTV system memory box allegedly taken from the shop to destroy evidence.

The store was robbed of about R270000 by a gang of about six believed to be responsible for a series of heists in Gauteng and Mpumalanga.

According to Sowetan's sources, the box was at one of the five arrested suspects home in KwaThema, Springs.

Apart from the R22000 already recovered, the memory box is said to be the one of the most damning evidence police have which links the suspects to the robbery.

A source said three of the suspects were employed as security guards at the Daveyton Mall, while another man was a senior security employee at the mall's Jet Mart store.

Sowetan can also reveal that two of the guards implicated in the crime have confessed to their involvement in the crime.

"On Friday the two guards were taken to the Germiston court where they confessed their involvement in the robbery to a magistrate, while the rest appeared at the Benoni regional court," said a source close to the police investigation.

The suspects are expected to appear for a formal bail application at the Benoni magistrates' court within seven days.
