Cape judge president John Hlophe will not face any charges of impeachment for now because the country's top judges want to wait until the conclusion of a court case in Cape Town which could have a bearing on the allegations facing Hlophe.
Chief Justice Pius Langa confirmed on Friday that the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) will wait until the conclusion of the court case of investment company Oasis versus Cape high court judge Siraj Desai.
After the completion of this case, the JSC will then deal with the other complaints laid against Hlophe by Cape advocate Peter Hazell.
The case will resume on June 11 in the Cape high court .
Hlophe had given Oasis permission to sue Desai for defamation. But Hlophe has admitted receiving payments of more than R500000 for consulting work from Oasis.
He claims he got permission from the late justice minister Dullah Omar to do the work.
Hazell has accused Hlophe of three counts of contempt of court, two counts of conduct unbecoming a judge, seven of bringing the administration of justice into disrepute and three counts of gross incompetence.
Hlophe has rejected the accusations, saying that he has not been charged with anything.
He has also indicated that the charges leveled against him stems from his exposure of racism in the judiciary.
