Fired University of Venda community radio station presenter Tshilidzi Nemakwarani has taken the station to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).
The popular DJ was sacked from the station last month after he was accused of not protecting his majesty, Kennedy Midiyavhathu Tshivhase, during his talk show.
The show was called Vhone Vha ri mini? - meaning What's your say. It is a programme that allows listeners to have a say about service delivery in most parts of Venda and is broadcast every Monday evening.
It is alleged that Nemakwarani failed to protect the king when he came under fire from listeners on January 25.
They were apparently chastising Tshivhase for allegedly stalling a road construction project between Lunugwi and Mukumbani.
Acting station manager, Tshilidzi Razwiedzani, allegedly gave Nemakwarani a letter of suspension immediately after the show.
A fuming Nemakwarani confirmed in an interview that he was fired after his seniors accused him of failing to protect the king during the show.
He refused to comment further and said he was taking the matter up with the CCMA.
A university employee, who attended Nemakwarani's disciplinary hearing, said he did not understand the reasons for the decision.
"I don't understand why Nemakwarani was expelled because there was no policy that guided the suspension," said the source.
Rufus Kharidzha, Univen spokesman, refused to comment and said that the matter was sub judice.
The hearing is scheduled to take place on May 25.
