Leonard Chuene, ASA president, has announced that top runner Bethuel Netshifhefhe has been reinstated back into the team to the World Championships in Japan.
This comes after Netshifhefhe was expelled from the team after competing in the gruelling Two Oceans Marathon in Cape Town on Easter Saturday.
In that yearly 56km ultra marathon, Netshifhefhe made the whole of South Africa proud by winning the event, ensuring that the title remains in Mzansi.
"I was in Cape Town when Bethuel won the marathon and I was surprised when I heard the announcers saying he had been expelled from the team," explained Chuene.
"On my arrival back in Johannesburg, Bethuel requested a meeting with me to discuss the reasons behind his removal from the team.
"I have always had an open door policy, especially when it comes to the athletes because they must be happy in order to deliver the goods.
"Bethuel explained to me that he had been unware about his inclusion into the team to the World Championships in August.
"I immediately investigated the matter in my office. I was informed that a call-up letter had been sent to his provincial association (Athletics Gauteng North).
"I then went to Gauteng North where I found out that no letter had been sent out to the athlete, it was on that basis that I reinstated him.
"We cannot punish athletes because of mistakes in our offices. Bethuel informed me that it has always been his dream to represent the country," added Chuene.
