South Africans love to shop - if the crowded consumer exhibits at the Rand Show at Nasrec, Johannesburg, are anything to go by.

Products ranging from furniture to electronic gadgets to speedboats to clothing have been drawing thousands of people and their wallets from all corners of the country to the show.

Started 112 years ago, the Rand Show has grown from a yearly agricultural exhibition into a shoppers' paradise and Africa's largest yearly consumer extravaganza.

With more than 500 stalls in three halls, visitors can shop until they drop.

Consumers are, in many instances, welcome to try out products before making a commitment to buy.

The show includes displays from Syria, India, Pakistan and Egypt.

Since it opened on March 30, 280000 people have visited the show - 180000 of them at the Easter weekend.

The organisers are expecting a huge attendance for the finale of the show on Sunday.

The Kaya FM Afropolitan Lifestyle Experience, and the Joyous Celebration gospel show, in association with Sowetan, Sunday World and Jozi FM, are among the entertainment highlights visitors can look forward to this weekend.

The Kaya FM Lifestyle Experience promises a fun-filled Saturday for those who love wine, dance, the arts, fashion, music and fine cuisine.

A concert by popular gospel group Joyous Celebration will close the Rand Show on Sunday.

Other entertainments on offer include poetry, comedy, graffiti, DJ workshops, fashion shows - featuring local designers such as Palesa Tshukudu, David Tlale and Stoned Cherrie - and a Youth Lifestyle Zone Show.
