Boksburg Correctional Services officer Gugu Thathane is looking forward to the Botswana Classic Open Tennis tournament in July with great anxiety following her victory in Vosloorus at the weekend.

This was after the Vosloorus-based Thathane scooped the inaugural Ekurhuleni Easter tennis tournament in the senior women's singles category at the Vosloorus tennis court. She was the overall winner after beating all five opponents in the round robin chart.

In one of the exciting matches, Thathane showed her character when she easily defeated Mpho Maboe 8-3 out of the best of 11 games.

The unstoppable Thathane and her partner, Mpho Maboe, also walked away with a trophy each after winning the women's doubles.

Other winners:

Men: Senior singles - Daniel Myeni; doubles - Fani Nkosi and Sidwell Thabethe.

Juniors' singles: Boys - Senzo Mabaso; Girls - Selelisiwe Nkosi.

Boys: Doubles - Senzo Mabaso and Sibusiso Mnyeni. Girls - Refilwe Maboe and Senelisiwe Nkosi.
