The Mpumalanga Vodacom League game between MP Highlanders and FC Barcelona yesterday was abandoned in the second half after an assistant referee slipped and collapsed .

When he regained consciousness Gazide Amukelani said he lost his balance and fella as it was raining the ground slippery.

"I only learnt of the incident when I regained consciousness at KaBokweni Clinic. But now I'm well," said Amukelani.

The score was 1-1 when the match was abandoned.

Highlanders are currently rooted at the bottom of the log with 26 points after 27 games, while Eagles have 27 points from 29 games. Their closest rivals, Winners, who have 27 points from 28 games, need only one win in their remaining two games to avoid the axe.

However, Highlanders spokesman Million Makaringe said: "We need no one's favour. We need to win our remaining games. We still have a pending protest against FC Barcelona."

Highlanders lost the game 3-0 but protested, alleging that Barcelona had fielded unregistered players.
