Killer farmer haunts councillor

Mighty Mulaudzi, a member of the Musina municipal council in Limpopo, might find himself in hot water over his testimony in the Polokwane high court.

Mulaudzi, a DA councillor in the ANC-dominated municipality, was testifying at a plea-bargaining hearing of Jewel Crossberg, the farmer convicted of shooting dead an employee he claimed to have mistaken for a baboon,

Crossberg was sentenced last week to 20 years in prison for the murder of Jealous Dube and the attempted murder of four of Dube's co-workers.

Mulaudzi, 41, stunned all and sundry last week when he agreed to testify for Crossberg.

He told the court that the ANC in Musina would not be what it is today if it were not for Crossberg.

Mulaudzi, who described Crossberg as "a black man trapped in a white man's skin", said he did not believe the accused could have killed Dube deliberately.

David Mokobi, acting spokesman for Musina municipality, said yesterday the municipality had applied for the transcript of Mulaudzi's court testimony and "will study it before taking action against him.

"We have applied to the Polokwane high court to provides us with the transcript of Mulaudzi's testimony so that we can decide on what action to take against him," said Mokobi.

"We want to make sure that the action is appropriate and matched the kind of offence he had committed."

He said: "There is a clear indication that Mulaudzi was intent on spoiling the good name of the municipality and that of the organisation.

"We are in no way going to tolerate this behaviour," he said.

Approached for comment yesterday, Mulaudzi said people were free to take whatever action against him they chose.

"All I said in court about Crossberg was true and there is no doubt about that," he said.

"I can still go to court and make the same statements about the man.

"Those wanting to take action against me know nothing about Crossberg."
