The relationship between Ford southern Africa and the Johannesburg Metro Police (JMPD) has recently been strengthened by the delivery of new Ford Focuses to the department.

Because of the remarkable performance of the previous Ford Focus, the metro police recently took delivery of 54 new Focus 1,6litre 5-door hatches.

The Focus units will be used on a 24-hour basis, for visible urban policing.

Each car has been allocated to a specific area in Johannesburg and can be identified by its police markings.

Roland Reid, of Ford southern Africa's fleet department, said: "On introduction of the new Focus, we branded one car and requested the JMPD to evaluate the car.

"The response from the officers who evaluated the car was most favourable.

"They were most impressed by the vehicle's superior handling, comfort and safety features," Reid said.

At the hand-over of the vehicles Reid said: "The Ford Motor Company of southern Africa is proud to have a long standing association with the Johannesburg Metro Police Department.

"And we are proud that they have once again chosen our vehicles to help in the fight for safer roads."
