The Democratic Alliance's Dianne Kohler-Barnard said she would submit written questions to Nqakula. Parliament is currently in recess.
Newspaper reports say an empty plane travelled from Miami, Florida, to South Africa to ferry 77 army and police personnel to the West Indies. The plane will bring the South Africans back, but will return to Miami empty again.
Police director Sally de Beer said the arrangement could not have been avoided because local flights were not suitable in view of the size of the contingent and because weapons are not allowed on commercial flights.
National police commissioner Jackie Selebi stated that South African agencies would be involved in security at the event . - Waghied Misbach
