North West has vowed that criminals who steal public money will have no space to move around.
The province's premier, Edna Molewa, and the head of the special investigations unit (SIU), Willie Hofmeyer, gave this assurance at the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the SIU and the province at Sun City on Thursday.
The partnership is meant to fight corruption in the province.
Molewa said: "Last September, when we announced the transfer of forensic investigations to the office of the premier, we indicated that the office would collaborate with the SIU.
"The SIU will work with the government to root out corruption and initiate investigations where necessary."
Molewa said there was "serious corruption" in North West.
She said South Africa's corruption rate was 51 percent and in North West it was 52 percent.
"We are above by one percent and that should not make us relax," she said.
"There shall be no such things as 'small fraud' because what may appear as small fraud could be big fraud if not detected early."
She added that another reason for the partnership was to protect the image of the province
In North West alone there are about 23 cases currently being investigated.
Molewa said it was unacceptable that it took long to investigate cases of corruption, adding that if investigations were coordinated their impact would be greater.
She said the public must also help to expose those in their midst who wanted to use their positions in government and the public service to enrich themselves at the expense of taxpayers.
