Government officials in Limpopo yesterday expressed shock at the death of one of the province's rising stars.

Ross Rankapole, regional manager for mining regulation in Limpopo, died in a car accident on Saturday morning.

Rankapole, 35, died immediately after his car lost control and crashed into a building just outside Polokwane.

Premier Sello Moloto called his death "a devastating loss to the province". He said Rankapole had been conducting research into the needs of communities in mining areas.

A memorial service will be held for Rankapole on Thursday in Polokwane. He will be buried on Saturday. - Ido Lekota
