Balfour slated over Yengeni

The DA has accused Correctional Services Minister Ngconde Balfour of refusing to disclose the parole conditions of fraudster Tony Yengeni.

The DA has accused Correctional Services Minister Ngconde Balfour of refusing to disclose the parole conditions of fraudster Tony Yengeni.

Balfour last week wrote to the DA's James Selfe, stating he would not release details because the scope of the request was "too wide".

Selfe made the request to Balfour under the provisions of the Promotion of Access to Information Act.

Selfe said he believed Yengeni was not following his parole conditions.

Yengeni was sentenced to four years in prison for defrauding Parliament after a 49percent discount he received on a luxury 4x4 from a German arms deal company which won part of the multibillion rand arms deal.

He served five months and was ordered to do community service for the rest of the term.

The department insists Yengeni was following his parole conditions. - Waghied Misbach
