Nana Mthalane wowed judges at the Always Ultra Keep Moving Africa Dance competition and won the title as Africa's best female dancer last Friday.

The competition was shown on SABC1's Jam Alley.

Twenty-year-old Mthalane from Midrand in Gauteng competed against hundreds of other contenders from South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria.

In the final she had to compete against two other outstanding dancers, one from Nigeria and the other from Kenya. Mthalane had her South African fans screaming for more whenever she was on stage.

During the tough finals, the three dancers were expected to perform three dances, a freestyle piece, a group piece and an individual triple challenge.

Mthalane has won herself a three-month Summer School Scholarship at the Broadway Dance Centre in New York.

This dance centre is considered to be New York's best dance studio, having produced top-flight dancers and choreographers.

Mthalane, who freelances as backing dancer for various recording artists, also won the Jika Majika dance competition on SABC1 last year.

Judges for the final event included kwaito singer Chomee and hip-hop group Tear Gas.
