Dr George Mukhari Hospital is not living up to the Patients' Rights Charter and Batho Pele principles.

My sister was admitted to this hospital on March 19 with spinal complications. The doctor who admitted her did not fill in the form for her to be referred to the spinal unit. She was only given pain tablets.

This was on a Monday and we were told she would see doctors on Friday. I could not understand why she had to wait for so long while in so much pain.

But on Thursday she was discharged, and a doctor refused to examine her before she left.

I spoke to the doctor and he told me there was nothing he could do because my sister did not have a referral form. I found this lack of communication disturbing.

I confronted the doctor who admitted her and he then filled in the form. My sister was then attended to.

The doctors pleaded with me not to complain to the hospital's chief executive. I have the names of all these doctors.

I request the hospital's chief executive to do his job.

Why can this hospital not offer the same quality of service as HF Hospital in Pretoria. Is HF offering a better service because it is in a white area?

It is time the Department of Health intervened.
