Home-brewed soapie Home Affairs has been chosen as a finalist at the prestigious 47th Rose d'Or [Golden Rose] festival, which honours the best TV programmes.

The drama was among 358 programmes submitted by 32 countries to compete for the awards. It is the only South African production in the competition.

Home Affairs has been nominated in the soap category alongside long-running UK productions The Bill and Eastenders. The winners will be announced at a gala awards ceremony in Lucerne, Switzerland on May 9.

A third series of Home Affairs will be broadcast on SABC1 starting on May 10.
