Durban is gearing up for the mother of all parties - a birthday bash for Igagasi FM, the fastest-growing urban black radio station in the country.

To celebrate, the station has organised a three-day celebration, including a gala dinner, a concert and a picnic in the park.

Tickets for the gala dinner, to be hosted by Sowetan tomorrow night, are sold out. The gala dinner will be at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre and Arena.

Judith Sephuma will perform.

The concert takes place at the same venue tomorrow night and will features Lvovo De'rango, Jozi, Brickz, Pitch Black Afro, Kabelo, Mafikizolo, Durban Finest, Black Coffee, Dj Siyanda, Somizi and Friends, and other comedians.

Igagasi was re-launched in March and now has a listenership of onemillion.

Alex Mthiyane, Igagasi's head of news and spokesman for the station, said the tickets for the concerts, to be held tomorrow, were selling fast. Yesterday, less than 1000 were left.

"I warn those who think they can buy tickets at the last minute that they might have a problem," he said.

Mthiyane said the birthday celebrations marked a year of great success. The festivities end on Sunday with a free picnic at Pitermaritzburg's Dales Park.

"The picnic is free because we want to thank our listeners for their support. All you need is your picnic basket and your family."
