Let Zimbabwe solve its own predicament

I have been following the situation in Zimbabwe with keen interest.

I have been following the situation in Zimbabwe with keen interest.

A lot has been said about the country in the past week.

Most of the comments blame the South African government in part for the deteriorating situation in Zimbabwe. The government's "quiet diplomacy" is said to have failed to solve Zimbabwe's problems.

I do not support what President Robert Mugabe is doing to his fellow Zimbabweans. What happened to MDC leader Morgan Tsvangarai is unacceptable and should never happen again.

I think our government is doing a lot to help resolve problems in Zimbabwe.

My question to those who are saying that South Africa should abandon its "quiet diplomacy" is: "Will megaphone diplomacy solve the problem of that country"?

I don't think so.

For the problem to be solved, the Zimbabweans should start the process themselves and South Africans should provide guidance.

We defeated the monster called apartheid, not because of the international pressure only, but also because of the determination of the people within this country.

If our government becomes aggressive towards Mugabe as the DA wishes, it will not solve the problem of the Zimbabwe.

Mugabe will be more hostile, and that is what we don't want.
