The department of labour compensation fund paid out R3,1million to beneficiaries during the first round of the services imbizo in Port Elizabeth, the department said yesterday.

Spokesman Zolisa Sigabi said the first service imbizo took place last week and will this week move to East London.

The imbizo will later be held in uMthatha where it will be based until Monday.

"Many clients of the fund, especially medical providers, are continuing to take advantage of the event," Sigabi said.

She said the fund sought to process outstanding payments and answer queries related to the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act. - Sapa
